Rummaging through posts on Pinterest I have tested many play dough recipes until I finally found a very good one that works every single time once you get the gist of it. Here are the ingredients :
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • acrylic paint
In a regular cooking pan, mix all the dry ingredients first, namely :  the flour, salt and baking soda. Then add the oil and the hot water. Stir all ingredients until it looks like a thick cream. Add the acrylic paint. Now you have a colored cream like dough. Heat over medium to low heat and keep stiring. The purpose here is not cooking the dough but heating it up until the water contained in the ingredients dries somehow. Heating should not exceed 5minutes. Your dough is ready once chunks start to come off the edges or the bottom of the pan. Don't worry if parts of the dough still seem wet while others seem dry as you will knead it once you take it out of the pan. Knead firmly until the dough cools off and the paint is spread evenly as some parts may not be tainted.
